"Two things, I have a 270t with a short shaft and running to much power for the wheels I can get, would like to know if you can change the propeller shaft for a long shaft or do I have to change the bottom end. Also if there are any books "or cds", on the 270T

"Scott, as far as I know you cannot run a long hub prop in your 270 short shaft, and you probably don't need to. The long hubs were introduced to avoid props spinning on the hubs in highly powered engines (say 200 HP or higher). You could certainly change the prop shaft, but I don't see the advantage unless you have a highly powered engine."

"In that case, I don't think that a 270 is a suitable drive for your engine, unless you are using a transom shield with double bypass. And in any case, your boat seems highly overpowered to me. You may need some custom made props for your drive to use the engine's full potential, or modify a Volvo racing prop; that is, provided the boat can take it, because I don't think it is rated for such high power (but I could be wrong)

"I think we are getting off track, would like to know if I am able to change the out put shaft on my lag to the long shaft. I would not need a custom wheel, there are a lot more options with the long shaft. The 14x21 is already custom and having hub problems. The power out was a LM340/250hp and 270T drive, motor was worn out and I was talked in to this power, runs awesome but power is on the high side.

The P/S housings are different

The P/S housings are different between the two. The shaft will fit but it will be a cobbled up mess with the zincs and thrust washer/ linecutter. I have seen it done though! I would opt for a good used complete V8 lower.
