By chance does anyone have a good condition drain plug (Volvo # 804262) for a 270 outdrive laying around they would not mind parting with? The head's slot on the plug in my outdrive drive has become widened enough so that none of my screwdrivers will work on it. Or does anyone have any suggestions on what I could use in lieu of a screwdriver when the slot has become widened like this? Thanks!

"I belive that a new screw Sierra part 18-4237 will fit. It should cost around 4 bucks at your friendly neighbourhood marine parts store. But if you feel rich, you can buy the real one from your VP dealer for about double that price.

"Yep, I did my research before posting and found out that a replacement is cheap but by the time you pay shipping it becomes a $12 part. So, just thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has one they wanted to get rid of.

"Walt, something like that loo

"Walt, something like that looks like it would work, although it looks like the tip might not be thick enough to not damage the drain plug slot further. Does that thing attach to a socket drive or ??"

"Bob, as long as the screw is

"Bob, as long as the screw is not seized (and no matter how worn the slot can be), there is always a screwdriver that will do the job without having to use an impact screwdriver. If not, a punch or a small chisel can be used to tap on the outer edges of the slot (counterclockwise) to drive the screw out. Afterwards, just install a new screw and you are back in business."

"El, I was able to get the screw out and back in last weekend when I changed the outdrive oil. Each year I fight with it so I have finally come to the conclusion that I need to either replace it altogether or find another tool to remove and re-install it each season. I think I just need to shop around for a larger screwdriver than what I have now. If only everyone had these "big" problems with their boat, eh?
