hello im trying to help my gr

hello im trying to help my grandfather which is trying to help me put in a new shift rod
i hit a stump in a lake and bent mine all to heck
i bought a new shift rod but we cant seem to get the old one out
my question is
how do you disassemble the shift rod to take it out please out me out so i can go fishing for some good ol crappie
