"1999 model 4 stroke used in salt water. Telltale has been reasonably strong over 8 years, but suddenly now after 10 mins running, steam is coming from telltale instead of water.
Overhauled the water pump with new impeler, and removed the thermostat completely, but overheating symtoms still happening. Any ideas?"

Sounds like a seal either move

Sounds like a seal either moved or gave up on you down at the water pump end (very common problem - particularly after an impeller change).

I would pull the lower unit again and pay particular attention to the seal on the waterpump cover itself and also the guide tube that connects up to the water-tube...
