How to R&R Mercury 25hp impeller. Need step-by-step
From SN search, a 1986, 2 cyl, electric start, tiller steer, short shaft (long?)

Concerned about:
1. no diagram or manual (lost or stolen) for this model
2. the shift shaft behind the power shaft
3. no diagram of water tube on early model

How to detach the shift shaft.

Disconnect the shift shaft behind the carb. There are a couple different disconnects there so figure which one you have.
Take bolts off of lower unit.
Drop lower unit.
Be mindfiul of the washer at the top of the shift shaft you will want to make sure that comes out.
The water tube will more than likely come out with the pump assembly.
Pull the tube out of the pump housing and be careful the rubber connector really grabs on to it.
Put the tube back up in the hole it came out of.
When you put the lower unit back on make sure the washer is sitting on top of the ears of the shift shaft.
