250DF alarm

I am getting a single beep alarm after idling for about 45 seconds, then after a minute or so it starts running rough and won't make any power. If I fire it up and immediately throttle up it runs fine. I have changed the IAC valve, the fuel filter and the fuel/water filter, but it still acts up. I can't find anywhere what that alarm signifies. Its a single beep about 2 seconds apart. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Any lights illuminated on your tach with the alarm?

Single beep could indicate that you’re due for an oil change but that won’t affect the engine performance.

Low voltage? Check the voltage at the battery at startup when it’s running rough and check voltage with increased rpms once the engine stops acting up. Usually Suzuki’s will throw a bunch of random codes with low voltage, yours isn’t but still worth checking.

Water in fuel? Drain the VST and collect the fuel in a clear container and let it sit to separate.

Low water coolant flow at idle, increased revs increases water flow thus cools engine. (Overheating)

Before startup pull the upper cowl off, maybe an exhaust leak?

Overheat and low battery should have their own codes.

What year is your engine?

Its a 2019, and I don't have any lights on the tach. Voltage is fine. The engine won't "stop" acting up, once it stumbles at idle, I can't get any power out of it. I shut it down, restart it, and I can accelerate with no issues. I'll take a look at the temps next time I'm out there. I've ran it several times with the cowl off and didn't notice an exhaust leak.

If you have a Suzuki shop nearby ask them what the single alarm code is. Some shops will offer information freely others will want you to bring it in at a cost. The shop will have Suzuki’s SDS software that can scan the engine for codes plus read the ECM in real time.

I’m guessing the rough running is the fail safe system activating and limiting the rpms to protect the engine. Why it’s not throwing a code is beyond me

Check voltage at the battery next time it acts up. A 1-1 code is rectifier/regulator (over charge condition) but that won’t activate the fail safe system.

I have read in other forums that IAC valves can be problematic. There should be a test procedure in the shop manual or possibly online.
