Hello everyone. Nice group you have going here.
I was hoping someone could tell me how to get to the stop engine switch on the terminal end of a 1985 25 HP XD? The thing will not kill the engine any longer. I do not see a screw on the throttle twist grip like on some older tillers. Other ideas on how to stop the engine without using the primer/choke pull? I don't want to flood it out every time I want to stop. If I disconnect the fuel line it takes a long time to stop.
Is this kill switch replaceable? Could it be a bad switch or just a loose ground wire? It is an electric start with the starter switch clamped on halfway down the tiller handle. Thanks.

"Here's a simple fix. Buy a horn switch (button type) from a boat store. Cut the wire going up the tiller handle and wire it through the horn switch to ground. You can mount the switch in the lower cowling, in a convenient spot.

Thanks for the post. Do you know how to take the tiller twist grip throttle apart so I can get to the little red end button?

The tiller is an S.O.B to take apart. The double cable for the shifter is a PITA to put back. If you have the one with the three screw cover and the tilt tube nut than it is a total M.F.

I should do a video tutorial on these one day I have done so many. What happend to the other laynard switch? Anyway...
'86+ engine goes like this.
Start with the carb removed. Remove that black rubber grip from the handle while it's bolted down. It pulls off over a lip. The wires are stuck under the fuel line connector. Take out that bolt.
The pulley with the cables is a bit of a puzzle the way they wrap around the spool. Mark the top cable with ink. That is on the inside track. The bolt holding it has a nut on the back of the plate that you don't want to fall out or move.
Find somthing you can shove behind there as a keeper. Do all this in neutral.

Than unbolt the handle and fish everything out.
Than you can take the handle apart.

Thanks people. It looks like it is time for a trip to the $$$ Merc dealer for repair.
I would consider Fastjeff's horn button fix however I do not know which wires to cut into as there are several to choose from!

"There's only two (as Noah told the rabbits) wires coming out of the handle. Run the two wires through the horn button switch and away you go--arr, make that stop,
