"Not sure if anyone has experience w/ carolina skiff's but i am looking at a j16 and the owner has a 2005 merc. 25 hp 2 stroke on the engine. It seems to me that would make the draft a little deeper than it ought to be for that boat. From the pictures and my own examination of the boat, the cavitation plate is about 3-5 inches below the hull w/ the skeg being at least 12 inches...it just seems that skiff ought to draft in about 8 inches of water...is there something i am missing?"

Sounds like someone installed

Sounds like someone installed a long shaft motor where a short shaft should have been. The anti cavitation plate should be very close to being even with the bottom of the boat.
