"I have a 1989 28' pontoon with a 2.3 omc and I would like to swap engines and put a 350 in it. What is needed? Do I have to change outdrives. Do I need to change gears, can I use an automotive 350 or do i have to have a marine 350?

"You'll have to change out

"You'll have to change outdrives. The 2.3 was a smaller version Cobra and will not stand up to the torque of the larger engine. You need a marine engine unless you are going to change things like the frost plugs, water pump, camshaft, externals like starter, alt, dist."

"I have found a mercruiser 350 and outdrive in a boat. I am thinking I will go that route. I kinda thought I would get that answer so I have been looking for a wrecked boat to take parts from.

The 350 in a pontoon is only because I have never seen one before. I am not planning on racing, but its nice to know I could if I wanted to."
 
I have an old 2.5 litre OMC in

I have an old 2.5 litre OMC inboard that has a cracked block. Can I swap in a Chev 2.5 litre and add the cooling bits then reinstall into boat?
