"Hi Chiefalan welcome back how did you enjoy me town.

Anyway I have a problem with no shutdown when I turn off the key. I have to pull coil wire to shutdown. Replaced old coil last week due to this, thought it was shorted internaly or some were. I did find that the two gray wires were spliced and burnt so cut back to good wire and replaced . Help this is boat weather and I need to be out on the water.

Montez"

"That may be the key, but the starter is new as of Sept.08 and boat put up in Oct. It's under warrenty at least. TKS"

"on my 2.3, the solonoidis seperate from the starter, im sure yours is also. facing the front of motor , its on the baxk left, just follow the starter cable. wack it with a hammer, (not hard enoughto break the plastic housing) turn motor off hit it acouple times, try to start, if it doesnt stick, then that probably is your ptoblem. If it still sticks, that could still be your problem,"

"if you do a search on here, y

"if you do a search on here, you will see that several people had this same problem last year. some with mutiple replacements, (i was one of them)"

"Kevin I have a solenoid on top of starter, but the assist is sepraid and this was dircet replacment from a Marina. I have orignal manual for year OMC and solenoid assist is pictured and listed but the starter motor is not on the (2.3 and 7.5), 3.0 to 5.7 is shown. I will give it a wack and bump around noon then get back to you. Tks again
May look in to switch as well."

"I had the same kind of thing

"I had the same kind of thing happen when re-wiring my boat. There was a wire under the dash that didn't seem to go anywhere. I hooked it to the fuse bank, and the boat wouldn't shut off with the key. I unhooked it, and no more problem. Weird."

"Loved your town, is "awes

"Loved your town, is "awesome" as the Boy Scouts said. Second time there for me and will be there again in DC during the summer to drop son off at Georgetown univ. for a medical conference.

Ok your problem, did this always do this? What you do to the boat, that it started doing this. And yes there is a slave solenoid at the back the positive cable should go into. That slave solenoid
should be grounded bye the base. Remove it and clean where the base meets the metal mount.

Do i think thats your problem nope. I think it's the ignition key. Even though when you start it when you turn it left to shut it off the connection in the lock / key might be shot.

Want to test it? Remove the key switch and hook up a lawnmower one, wish i knew you had this problem when i was in town i could have let you borrow a spare key / switch i have in my garage.

I'm sending you my phone number to my cell phone in a email give me a second to turn on the cell phone. and to send the e-mail"

"Hi guys: Well I have given up

"Hi guys: Well I have given up on the 2.3 at this time. Replaced some things after fouling with the coil wires that I had did some switching with (not looking in the book first) shorted out points and one 50 amp fuse. Put new points/condenser and ignsion switch in and replaced both 50 amp fuses. check grounds and all wire connections. well now no fire at the coil after swaping out coil with with two others that were in boat befor had no problems with.

Any other addvise out there, And by the way.

The Sea Sprite 2.5 OMC ran well after the Swap out I posted back in Dec. or so had it out Sat, Sun & Mon. Guess I'm lucky to have two, if one is broke then pull out the other."

"Check for 12v across the coil

"Check for 12v across the coil while starting, maybe your new points are not set quite right (not opening or closing?) Possibly have wires mixed up on the pos and neg coil terminals. The neg should have 2 gray and 1 black, the 2 gray go to the tach and ESA, the black comes from the points. On the positive side should be a purple/black wire from the starter solenoid (gives the coil 12v while cranking) and there should be a red/purple wire (resistor wire gives approx 8-9 volts while running)"

"Well I screw-up not using the

"Well I screw-up not using the book once on those wires and post, duble check and checked again. points are set correctly. If no rain this afternoon will go over all settings and wires with multi-meter in hand"
