"Have 1988 2.3 Liter Cobra. Had slight miss and cut out at cruising speed. Changed points, new plugs, new plug wires. Did not help. Over several trips progressively has gotten worse. Barely made it in to dock last time. Severe cut out and pulsing. Starts hard now with bad miss. 50 amp fuse holder seems hotter than it should. Unsure now if ignition or fuel issue?? Any help out there."

"I'm thinking of the possibility that the ESA is not disengaging after the shift. Long shot, as I would expect that you'd notice it immediately after shifting. The pulsing is what caught my eye. The ESA interrupts the engine briefly during the shift. If the setup is not right, the ESA could keep pulsing and stalling the engine. Just throwing it out there."

"You're right it can do that, however I had already checked during operation and that did not seem to be the issue. The ESA was replaced about 3 years ago and seems fine. Maybe I'll change the condenser again (read another thread about that). Would a bad resistor wire cause this? I also am concerned about the hot 50 amp fuse wire and holder."

"I've had my 50 amp fuse go but it didn't blow it had literally melted the solder inside holding it together, did it twice so I pulled the fuse holder all apart, cleaned both ends and crimped it some to make sure it was a good tight fit and haven't had the problem again since, this was a few years ago."

"Good news gentlemen, just got back from a great run. The engine is purring. I went back to basics. Took advise from the threads here and changed the condenser. Also found barely visble corrosion on the distributor terminal where the bolt goes through the Mallory Dist. Took all apart and cleaned with small wire brush. Checked Dwell and time. Both fine. Points were already new. Runs like a top. That fixed it. After the fix, Bob, I too noted that the inside of the fuse holder was corroded and needed cleaned, I did a similar thing and it seems to be cooler.
Thanks guys for the suggestions. Great post site."
