Mercury Marine gave me part # 865436A03 as the Shift Cable housing kit for the 1979 228 Sterndrive - Mercruiser 228 engine -305 - 4 bll - the shift cable housing is different than the original - the brass end at the shift plate is 1 1/2 longer - this prevented me from routing the cable on the original path to the plate
The wire cable is about a 1/4" longer than the original.
I check out the shift cable only on part kit 865436A02 and it had the same brass end as the original - so I order it - great
My question is - this wire cable is also about a 1/4" longer than the original -is this a problem
