225hp Opti max repairs ridiculous

I purchased a 2008 Triton Bass Boat that came equipped with 225 Optimax. I have less than 60 hours on the engine and the motor has been in shop for more than 60 hours. Really let down with the performance of the engine. All the coil packs have had to be replaced,fuel lines and now the whole fuel pump system has to be replaced. I will go Evinrude next time. My father bought his Triton with Evinrude package at same time and his boat has never been put in shop! So any new buyers shopping out there hope this helps in your decision making process!

You bought this "new" 8 years ago and it only has 60 hours on the motor?

That's barely one weekend a year.

I am not totally surprised that it doesn't want to run. The less you use it the more maintenance it will require - that's just the way it is with motors.

Your luck with an Evinrude would probably be similar.

Buy a new car - drive it one weekend a year and then leave it "parked" at other times - and that one weekend you use it start it up (probably need a boost), idle it to the end of the driveway (if the gas isn't too stale to fire) and then floor it for a while. Shut it down and do the return back home (which is how outboards are generally treated - idle from the dock through the no wake zone, then hammer the throttle to get her up on plane). Then park it until next year - do that for 8 years in a row and I'm certain, it too would be spending some significant time in the shop.
