Engine is a 2003 Yamaha 225 3.1 VMax OX66 EFI. Last two times out in boat after running fine at faster speeds was first occassion trailering boat and then 2nd trip restarting to go after brief stop when overtemp buzzer sounded. Replaced the water pump and housing last January. Checked the two thermostats after latest incident in water bath and appear to be opening correctly. Have heard others refer to a poppet or pressure regulating valve but cannot locate this (if installed) on my engine. Any other thoughts or ideas?

Poppet valve (Pressure Relief Valve). Not completely sure, but on your engine I believe it is in the lower part of the Exhaust Cover Plate. Sort of top hat shaped piece held in place by 2 bolts (10mm?) with a rubber hose connected in the side.

Found the pressure relief valve behind the motor rear plastic cover (exhaust cover plate). Removed the valve and cleaned the valve and seat - didn't really see much. Ran the boat full throttle for a good 30 minutes over the weekend. Never heard a peep out of the warning system. Guess it made a difference. Thanks for your help.
