I have a 225 1992 had the carbs rebuilt and a little other stuff ( minor) it cranks good idles good runs in the tank good but in open water runs about 500 to 600 yds and shuts off could this be carb adj. or some thing else thanks darron

When it shuts off, is it instant like someone turns the key off ???---------------give exact details.------------------Does it start right up again??------do you have to pump the bulb to get it to restart ??

it will start up but not right away it does not really help to pump the bulb .I have just completed redoing this boat and put a new fuel tank (belly ) with a 3/8 fuel line . then the dealer rebuilt the carbs. so i am courious if it pulling the gas line shut ' going to try an alt. fuel tank tomarrow just to eliminate that portion or to see if that is part of the problem
it will idle great but will only run out at about 600 yds at full throttle shuts down instant it will also hessitate during the run kinda like a skip this enging has not been ran in about a year that i know of

The reason he was asking if it shuts down like the key has been switched off is to determine if it is Ignition loss or a fuel loss. So we need to know,When it shuts off, is it instant like someone turns the key off ???-

O k ran the boat today with an alt fuel tank ran perfect ran about 4800 rpm BUT WHEN i reconnected the main fuel tank the rpm wuold drop down to about 3800 to3400 and start pulsing but did not shut off I CHANGED TANKS AGAIN TO the alt ran perfect so
here is the big question i built the fuel tank my self i have a 5/8 vent line i did not notice the bulb being so i am courious if the fuel pump may need a new diaphram or if the filter seperator is getting air or if the pick up tube is getting air some how thought about putting an elec fuel pump between tank and filter (good idea or very bad one ) thanks for the input

(Fuel Anti Siphon Valve)
(J. Reeves)

Many of the later OMC V/6 engines incorporate a fuel restriction warning via a vacuum device attached to the powerhead. If the engine overheats, or if you have a fuel restriction, the warning is the same.... a steady constant beep.

NOTE... Only the V/6 & V/8 engines have the above "Fuel Restriction Warning". The warning horn will not sound on the other models.

The fact that a engine is not overheating, but the warning horn sounds off with a constant steady beep, and that the rpms drop drastically would indicate that the engine is starving for fuel due to a fuel restriction. Check the built in fuel tank where the rubber fuel line attaches to the tank fitting. That fitting is in all probability a "Anti Siphon" valve which is notorious for sticking in a semi closed position. It will be aluminum, about 2" long, and the insides of it will consist of a spring, a ball, and a ball seat. If this valve exists, remove it, knock out those inner components which will convert it to a straight through fitting, then re-install it. Hopefully that cures the problem.

The above procedure will cure a restriction problem with the anti siphon valve as stated. BUT, it may also allow fuel to drain backwards to the fuel tank when the engine is not running (siphoning backwards) due to the fact that the carburetors/fuel pump etc are higher than the fuel tank. This condition is not an absolute as the valves in the fuel primer bulb usually prevent this backwards siphoning problem. However.... if this does take place, the cure would be to install a new anti siphon valve.

Sounds like a fuel flow problem. Disconnect the fuel hose at the engine from the fitting, put the hose in a fuel can. Pump the primer ball. Each pump should give you a full measure of fuel, no collapse, and no air. If it does not, you have a tank pick up, filter, hose, or vent issue.

thanks for all the info I built the tank out of 16 ga stainless app 65 gal hind sight 20/20 can not remove the anti siphen valve without major work acc. hole to small and set tank in built in box so talked to boat mfg and said to try a small elec fuel pump 1to4 pounds pressure so i installed this and fuel ran in 5 gal can good so i do not think their is any major rest. except the anti siphen valve going to try again sat wish me luck and thanks again
