20hp yamaha problems

OK so I have a few problems with my 20HP tiller handle yamaha.

1) Will not start reliably. It started first pull today but then ran a little, sputtered, and died. Sometimes I can just adjust the idle screw and it's fine, not today.

2) Runs fine once started until I give it some gas and up the revs. Earlier it ran for a couple of minutes, only sputtered twice, then when I tried to bring it back to idle it died.

Any help at all would be appreciated.
 
I had a similar problem with my 25 horse. I had let the motor set for a long time without being cranked. I fixed it with a can of Power Tune. If your gas smells like shellac clean out all the bad gas from your tank, fuel line/bulb, fuel pump, and carb. Then go buy a can of Power Tune and follow the directions. Let me know if that does it. --Arnold
 
It's a four stroke. I've been thinking it is dirty carbs, so I've been contemplating running a gallon on 93 octane mixed with carb cleaner to open them up.
