After finishing 300 hour service on engine, I went to install the lower. After aligning the drive shaft we started tightening the bolts to secure it and heard an audible pop sound, almost like something slipping into place. This sounded like it came from the direction of the shift shaft, but we continued to install it and after installing, we couldn’t shift it out of neutral. After lowering it the shift shaft was slightly bent. We bent the shift shaft back into place (this caused slight marring on the splines) and went to reinstall. Still not working, and we tried installation multiple times.
Fast forward a few days and I went to re attempt it this time with the motor and helm in forward as well as reverse. When I installed in forward I couldn’t take it out of forward at all. When installing in reverse the helm would go into neutral but the lower would stay in either reverse or a weird half-neutral that made a slight clicking noise.
No idea what to try, but any advice is greatly appreciated!
