2021 Suzuki DF25ATH

Engine runs great on a cold start up for 5 minutes then dies. Spark plugs are new, empeller works, thermostat new, fuel injectors working, air good, fuel good, fuel filter good, fuel pump good, maintenance light reset. All usual maintenance items checked and replaced.
There is a clunking in the lower unit when in gear. I wonder is there is any kind of sensor telling the engine to shut down because of the clunk or malfunction happening in the gearbox.

No sensors in the gear box. With the engine off, shift to neutral and spin the prop by hand, should spin freely both counterclockwise and clockwise

COOLING PROBLEM. OK I believe I have widdled this down to a cooling problem. I have completely rebuilt the empeller and seals etc lower unit fine but the engine still does not have a good “pee stream” coming out when running. It’s more of a trickle even at higher RMP. I have replaced the thermostat and blown air in system etc and also let a hose run on it for 10 min. I do get a solid pee stream when hose is hooked up and not running engine. Could there be some kind of clog I can’t identify in The cooling system? I am am confident the empeller was replaced properly. Should I keep a water flush up to the motor longer? Can I flush the motor from the thermostat location at top?

When you “completely rebuilt the empeller” means you installed a OEM water pump kit or just the impeller? Was the old impeller intact? Are you using a barrel or muffs to supply water to the engine when running the engine on land? Fresh water or salt water engine?

Yes you can flush the engine from the thermostat hole from the top.

The telltale function is a visual indication that the water pump is pumping, you state that telltale stream is good with the hose but weak when the engine is running at higher RPMS leads me to think that the pump is weak or you don’t have enough water in a barrel.

Thanks William. Great advise. Is seems the ear flaps for water supply and the hose was just not giving the engine enough water. yes we did the complete OEM empeller / water pump kit.
Once we had it in a bucket it ran great.
All fixed now with all new seals in propeller housing too. Hoping to run like new again.

New plugs, fuel filter, oil change and filter etc.

Ps we always run ethanol free on these. Occasionally adding some seafoam.

Thanks again. Suzuki back up and running.

Now on the the other one. Same motor. The coaches accidentally mixed diesel in it for a few sessions. Arghhh.

Top cylinder only 70 psi on compression test. Middle and bottom cylinder test good at 180. Hoping it’s just a stuck piston ring. Bring on a little ATF. Maybe I can get it to clean up and hold compression. Thanks again.
