Hey, my name is Caleb. I have a tiller handle manual tilt kicker motor that won’t idle and stalls during acceleration from idle. The motor seems to be suffering from a lean condition. I disassembled and cleaned the carburetor. There were some signs of corrosion and fuel separation. Also, the float bowl gasket was leaking which I tried to remedy with some silicone gasket maker. After reinstalling the carburettor the issue persisted.
My next idea was to remove the brass plug covering the idle mixture screw and try to resolve the lean condition that way. But, I noticed the accelerator pump nozzle was clogged and needed to be flushed. Therefore, I did not adjust the idle mixture but instead removed the carburettor for a second time. I was hesitant to remove the float bowl but I realized it was the only way to flush out the nozzle. There were some pieces of silicone gasket loose inside the carburetor.
Now the engine is still exhibiting the same lean condition symptoms. It will not idle for more than a couple minutes and stalls during acceleration from idle. Also the float bowl gasket continues to leak. Could the float bowl fuel leak be my issue?
My next consideration is to disassemble the carburetor again and clean out the low speed passageways because they may have clogged with the gasket maker. But it seems like there could be an air leak somewhere. Maybe the gasket that mounts on top of the carb has an air leak. My other thoughts are that the ignition system may have an issue as well. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
