hey folks i picked up a 70's StarCraft hull with a 2016 merc 15hp for $2000 over the weekend.
i took it out on a maiden voyage and it runs like doo doo. im mechanically inclined however i have never worked on a boat before. heres what its doing.
in fwd it will hardly get out of its own way. it bogs or stutters as if im hitting the bottom of the lake (impossible on this lake). it will idle OK, it seems kind of low. it has newer plugs, new gas, clean carb and new oil. it will maybe get up to 5mph but its running REAL rough. oil light is not on, but its acting as if its im limp mode. if i go throttle only i can rev this thing all the way up and it doesnt skip a beat. it appears to only struggle in fwd. reverse i really couldnt tell because im not hammering on it in reverse. because i can use the throttle only button and rev this thing up, im not really leaning to a fuel issue but im not 100% sure. how can i get into the "drivetrain" on these things? is it fairly simple? any advice or what would yall look at first? here is a video i uploaded, you can hear the stutter and see the front of the bow wont plane out. i couldnt get a longer video due to emailing restrictions. youtube video
thanks in advance
