2013 350 Mag SmartCraft Tach Not Working

2013 twin Mercruiser 350 Mag ser# 2A049636 port side SmartCraft tach don't work until the key on starboard engine is the "on" position. Weird. Appreciate any input.

is this 'new' behavior or something thats been going on for a while?

I've only owned the boat for a few months and it's been this was from the get-go. Bought it through a broker with no contact to seller.

hard to say without a lot more detail...The factory seems to be continually evolving that product line and I, personally, can't afford to keep up with the documentation.

It could be wired in a sub optimal manner, it could have an incorrect interface cable, or the two engines (ECUs) may not have been configured correctly.

Thanks for you input. It's not a big problem because both engines run at the same time other than having to do some diagnostics.
