2012 Crusader 602C exhaust configuration

Greetings, I have a new to me boat with 2012 Crusader 602C engines. These are the catalyzed exhaust models. I'm in the process of learning the engines & trying the find the maintenance schedules especially for exhaust replacement. I was also looking for the engine anodes & the one in the parts diagram doesn't exist on my engine (#41).

When I looked up the parts diagram for the engines, the pics show the discharge water being routed into both sides of the exhaust elbow while mine is only going in one side. Other 2012 models I've seen also only have it going into one side while 2014 or newer models have it going into both sides. Would Crusader have released a service bulletin about upgrading older models?

you gotta have the full model number and the serial number to make sure you get the correct service literature....the "year" doesn't help much, depending upon the source.

the owner's manual should be available on the www site.

Crusader, like most marine engine makers will change the configuration as the need arises...unless its a major safety issue, they won't do refits on already sold units. that said, if its a year or two old, you can usually talk with the regional service rep and reach a reasonable solution.

Thanks. The full model is 22-602C-03. I was sourcing a parts manual from the site listed below but I compared the engine serial #s & I see the manual is for later engines even though it claims to be for 2010-2013. The labels say my engines were actually made in 2011. Do you know somewhere else I can source a parts manual?

I have a copy of the owner's manual, but that doesn't show an anode in the exhaust elbow though there is a sticker on the elbow. It also doesn't discuss whether a replacement schedule for the elbow is needed.

Thanks!

You should be able to get one from PCM...many times, they will email it out if you are decent and get a good tech support rep.

If you have a good dealer close by, they can be a huge asset...

They don't tell you about the long term replacement items because its not in their best interest - and none of the marine engine houses do it. My rationale for that mindset is once it is out of warranty, the bean counters won't let them discuss the topic.. Specific to the elbows, there are a lot of variables...the local boating community is probably the best source for the local knowledge... Where we are (mid atlantic) some boats see the full range from fresh to ocean brine. And most see less than 100 hours per year... 3-5 years is about it for the exhaust elbows, on average.

And your engine's 'year' is typical...and pretty common....that's why the model/serial numbers are more important...

And the anodes, on the older engines, they could be found in the heat exchanger and the oil coolers, usually on one of the drain plugs for the raw water side...not sure where they are used on the CAT systems but wouldn't expect them to be radically different.

I had a pair of 454XLs for 14 years & replaced the exhaust elbows regularly so I was familiar with that. These are different though, or least they appear to be. I don't see any exhaust kits available on the usual websites & the part# shown in the parts manual R029017 isn't showing up on a general search.

I'll try contacting PCM about a parts manual.

Thanks.

arrows indicate candidate locations...the one on the exhaust elbow may be the one you know about...hard to get the overall perspective

Thanks. Yes the top one is also an anode, looks like an E-0. No label on the heat exchanger but it is in the owner's manual. Unfortunately, they don't list the part #s in the owner's manual. I stopped by my local marine parts store (not a chain) to look for the big anode. They had some Crusader anodes in their parts inventory that looked right but are too long to fit. Hopefully the ones I ordered from boatzincs are correct.

If you think its custom, 95% of the time, you can take a standard part and cut or re-thread it to 'fit'...just get the 'correct' flavor for your environment.
