2012 377 mag

I have a 2012 Cobalt 232 with a mercruiser 377 mag. Since new last year, the engine hesitates in the morning when I attempt to accelerate. The marine mechanic states this is normal until the engine reaches operating temp.. This is my 3rd mercruiser and have not experienced the issue before......Any thoughts?, I will be contacting mercruiser next week.

How cold is cold before you are able to accelerate on your lake? Start the boat up and immediately accelerate to planing speed or is the hesitation just off idle to say 1000 rpm for instance?

Due to the design of the engine being an higher performance engine model, they do tend to act slightly different then some of the other engine models on the market when very cold. Though Mercruiser and GM recommend using 87 octane it has been my personal experience that using 89 octane makes engines like the 6.0 & 6.2's run oh so much better, smother, stronger, less of an hesitation or roughness "feeling" on any type of acceleration especially while cold. And as unusual as this may sound, adding 91 octane does not seem to help improve anything and actually makes engine seem to run as if there was 87 octane back in there bringing back a roughness feeling like I felt while using 87. So in the mean time while waiting for an Mercruiser service representative to help figure out the hesitation, if you haven't already done so, maybe you could try some 89 octane to see if there are any changes in the hesitation under your typical usage scenario.

Either way, there are lots of test that need to be done to help find out why there is a complaint of an hesitation on your engine and figure out what the cause is and do what ever it takes to help eliminate it as much as possible.

Since boat dealers are typically extremely busy this time of year and under a lot of pressure to move boat in and out the door as quickly as possible, they may feel it's just easier to say we looked at a few certain things and could not find anything out of the ordinary there for it's normal even if it's not and contacting Mercruiser ASAP is the right step to proceed to help you gain confidence that their going to slow down a bit and give your boat 100% of their attention that it deserves with guidance by their side.

Hope they get it all figured out, Let us know what they find and good luck with it.:)

scenario--in the morning, lower the boat lift, start the boat, idle out from shore for approximately 2-3 minutes, attempt to accelerate to plane, boat hesitates until over 1200 RPM, no problem remainder of day. Interesting about the mid grade, I'll run that fuel this coming weekend. Thanks for the responses
