Hello everyone. I’m searching for some answers and help on my Evinrude outboard motor. Has 169 hours on it. I recently bought it and had it sitting for a week on a trailer. Got the engine on the boat and was hoping to use the boat for the first time. (Recently bought that too). And low and behold the engine starts giving me problems from the start. The engine had smoked/black spark plugs. Got those changed. We had it in for diagnostics, and everything checked out. The mechanic said it’s something to do with the fuel supply, and that I should try and change the lift pump. A friend of mine had the same engine laying around just a 2005 model. So I changed the lift pump but still the same problem.
Problem is : when I use the bladder on fuel tank this fills the fuel filter with fuel. The engine starts and runs great , until it uses up the fuel that’s in the filter and system. So it’s not getting the fuel from tank to filter in other words. What can the issue be?
We have tested two different fuel tanks. Next will be just in a clear mug directly to the pump it self.
The electric fuelpump was tested with the diagnostics and started and gave no fault codes. ( but a code 94 - has been stored since the engine had run 31 hours ).
- Electric fuel pump does not start when ignition is turned on. We measured the Voltage going to the pump to be 10.82 volts. Pump runs if connected to the 12V battery directly). Should it run when ignition is on? To prime? Mechanic I’ve spoke with said not all engines have this.
Should I use money on a new electric pump? Buy a new lift pump? Maybe the one from the 2005 model is faulty as well?
