I need a 90 hp for my project and found this....Brand New Evinrude Etec 2011 90hp with a (3Year Warranty). This motor is still in the crate has a 20'' Shaft, Remote, Electric, White, Model # E90DSL11, MSRP $10,220.00. Sale $6,799.00.
I read horror stories often about multiple blown power heads, etc. about E-Tecs. I have no idea if these claims are true or false, but this unit is something I could afford. My question, of course, is if this model has demonstrated chronic problems and/or if this even appears to be a reasonable deal? I've never had anything new in my whole life...so I'm just not dialed into what's hot and what's not. I'd be greatful for any advise!

i personally would have a few questions before i bought...who is going to honor the 3 year warranty?this is a 4 year old motor...why is a four year old motor still in the box and new after all this time?..does it include controls?..does it include prop?
i cannot speak towards the evinrude reliability etc because i know noone that is running a 90..i fish and have a camp in commercial fishing country and the yammy or merc are the engines used...especially those running 90's...there is not even a evinrude dealer down there..

Thanks for the response, papyson. The back story is that these folks are dealers but have dropped outboards from their lines but still sell CanAm and Skidoo. They have this unit and a couple others left over. Stated that manufacturer's warranty starts date of purchase. Sale includes outboard and owner's manual only...no controls, tach, prop, etc. the unit is 300 miles away in Tok, but there is an Evinrude dealer here in Anchorage. I was just hoping that someone on this forum might have specific knowledge..good,bad or ugly with this unit. The Yammys are very popular here, too

Hi gary, I would stay away from e-tec if I was you. Been a tech for 15 years now, we used to deal with lots of e-tecs and now are strictly Yam. A fuel injected four stroke is a good start, I have seen 115s with thousands of hours on them. Have plenty of extra parts for e-tec 90s as we have 2 in our warehouse w/bad power heads. Just my opinion :)
