2011 40hp Merc 4 stroke lower unit

Lost reverse today on first trip out. Found the bearing carrier had snapped the mounting tabs and slid back. Now I have to replace the bearing carrier but everything else inside looks fine. My question is, how do I remove the reverse gear from the old carrier? I plan on purchasing a new carrier and a complete seal kit as well. Thanks for any help!

Any water in the oil ?----Freezing temperatures ?

Yes, hence the seal kit. I will also replace the bearings in the carrier.
