I have a 1998 200hp evinrude mounted on a 20' fish and ski that is running poorly. In neutral, it revs up ok and seems pretty smoth, but when I put it in gear, I have to give it throttle slowly to get up to speed and at about 25mph it stops taking throttle. If I give it more fuel, it boggs and sputters terribly. It has been this way since I bought it so I don't have any history on it. I don't know if it is a fuel problem, electrical/computer, or compression. Help! Kids want to go fast Daddy!

All running motors will rev up in nuetral and it proves nothing.---------------You need to do some checks on your motor !-----------Follow instructions as your motor is far away from my work bench..----------------Do a compression test first.----------Then check to see if you have spark at each cylinder that jumps a gap of 7/16" or better.----------If you do not know how, then run to your local shop and have these two tests done at minimal cost , ask to witness the work.

1234 did you ever get your mtr fixed? i have a 200 johnny that did the same thing, i took the carbs apart and cleaned them out. had a lot of rubber pieces from that e-10 gas i presume blocking the passageways. put it back togather and she hit full power. o yea i changed all the small fuel line hoses in the mtr too, the old ones were rotted to the core. But it is a boat and other issues have surfaced since,, like my electrical short i'am trying to find, and it fouls plugs quickly for some reason. i guess yu got love it.
