"2000, }200hp Johnson ...Going from forward to neutral motor stalls unless I dip shifter into reverse slightly then to neutral. Same thing going from reverse to neutral, I have to shift slightly to forward before hitting neutral or it will stall. Makes backing into slip a real fun game."
 
wear on cable brackets and gui

wear on cable brackets and guides changing the original settings for timing/shifting.vibration could have loosened the hold down bracket.
use lock tight on the worn bolt(s) to prevent them from loosening during operation.
recheck throttle idle setting and check lwr unit for gearlube.

Thanks jwb and justaspark. I've tried adjusting it out in the cable. I'll check the other items except the gearlube which I can't do until haulout.

"Find the black/yellow wire leading from the shift interrupter switch to the powerpack and temporarily disconnect it at its connector.

If this temporary disconnect eliminates the problem, either the switch is faulty and sticking, or the shift linkage is jamming at some point causing the switch to stay engaged."
