" I finally got the cylinder head off the engine and the cylinder that tested zero for compression is in very bad shape. The cylinder dome on the head looks like a dried up river bottom (or Clint Eastwood's lips). It is covered with scratches, pits, and gouges. The cylinder wall has a couple of very deep scratches and the bottom of the cylinder wall, next to the exhaust port, has a broken piece about the size of a dime. It would seem that this piece broke off any was chewed up in the cylinder or perhaps a piece of FOD was left in the engine and was sucked up by the piston. Is this a fixable thing or is it time to buy a new block or powerhead?

Thanks again for all your help.

"Tom.... If your powerhead requires rebuilding or replacing, I have one professionally rebuilt powerhead left in stock (Part #431798). However, unfortunately I am unable to ship it.

Many times (more often than not), it is cheaper to replace the powerhead than to rebuild it, but of course that's something you would need to figure out. Should you be interested and are able to get to the Tampa Bay, Florida area, contact me at [email protected] .
