2009 8.1 duo-prop stuck on...

The dealer notified me today that during the yearly oil change and lower end service, that the props
wont come off...? He may have to re- press the boot or may damage the props getting them off.
Is this a normal occurrence? It was removed less than a year ago?!

Were they removed less than a year ago? Did you see them removed. Two years of not being removed will make them hard to remove. If they pull the hub out the hub will need to be replaced. It's better to send them to a qualified prop re-builder. The hubs can be damaged while installing them.

Depending whether or not the boat is moored, and/or in salt water, it's protocol to pull these and clean and re-grease the splines, and sometimes more than once per season.
Even if the boat is pulled after each outing, salt water will cause an issue if this is left unattended.

As I'm sure that Chris knows and may have done himself......, I've had to cut more than my share of perfectly good Duo Props from a lower unit simply because the owner did not do his required annual, or simi-annual propeller shaft/hub removal, cleaning and re-greasing.
It's a real shame to see this happen to a perfectly good set of props.

The AFT prop will usually come off.
It's the larger FWD prop that's usually the issue.
