Group - I have a 2008 Merc 90HP EFI that runs great for the most part....except one problem. When I attempt to shift from foward or reverse to neutral....the motor dies when in the water. I can start it right up and it idles fine...and runs well at high rpms otherwise. I changed the fuel filter, temp sensor, fuel line from tank to filter, air filter, and the shift interrupter switch. Problem still exists.
Also, I tested the motor out of the water with a hose but I disconnected the Shift Interrupter Switch. My test showed that the motor did NOT die going from forward/reverse to neutral. It appears I fixed it...by unplugging it!?! However, what is the point of the switch then? And more importantly, will I damage the motor leaving it unplugged (run rich, dump gas into the oil, etc)? Do I need to change something in the ECM after replacing the switch and that is what is causing the issue?
Im at my wits end trying to trouble shoot this and two mechanics are as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
