2008 Etec 115 lower unit removal

I need to remove the lower uni

I need to remove the lower unit of my 2008 Etec 115. How do I disonnect the shift shaft so I can remove the lower unit? I can get it to drop about an inch or so but the shaft is still connected.

Do I need to take the lower cowlings off to access the screw to disconnect the shift shaft (don't see how to get at it).

Any explanations would be great- especially if you can provide a photo of how to do that.

( I am waiting for my service manual that appears to be lost in transit)

"No need to remove the covers, but it makes things easier.
Pull out the clip the horizontal shaft going under the carbs (on stb side). Then push the shaft to port, and the shift rod gets released."
