"We have a new 08 E-Tec 200 hp on our 24' pontoon. The water inlet and the cooling water pisser (for lack of a better word) are constantly geting plugged with small weeds and sounding an alarm. Thank goodness it has an alarm. The holes in the pickup and the pisser are small, it's no wonder they plug. I don't want to drill out the hole for fear of voiding warranty. Any one else having this problem or offer any solutions? Thanks in advance. Bev"

"Drilling out the hole in the tell-tale (pisser), is not advisable. This is just an indicator; most of the water goes down through the lower unit and out through the propeller with the exhaust. Even if the tell-tale gets clogged the engine will cool normally. Making the hole bigger will reduce the pressure in the cooling system, which can have an adverse effect on cooling. I believe you can remove the tell-tale and find a screen underneath which can get clogged also.

Drilling out the holes on the pick-up will only allow more junk to be circulated in the engine. Also not advisable.

Cooling is very important to these engines. Besides cooling the engine block itself, the cooling system circulates water through the computer which is very susceptible to heat. It is not a bad idea to disconnect the two water hoses at the computer and make sure the water jacket is not getting clogged with debris."
