Hi, just wondering if anyone has encounted a problem with the starter motor engaging while the motor is running? We have two 2008 model bf20's on our sailing cat and have this problem with the starboard one only.
ther'es a spring holding down the pinion would it be worth replacing this or could there be an electrical fault with the ignition system?

Re: bf20 stater motor engaging while running??

-Is the pinion staying engaged after motor start-up, then it might just need some lubrication on the starter. If it happens after the motor is running, then look for problems in the electrical end of it.----------The starter solenoid is getting a signal when it should not.-----------Possible a defective ignition switch.----------------Try swapping switches from one motor to the other.

DO NOT LUBE THE BENDIX UP!!!!

you will lube up the clutch packs in the Bendix causing it to slip!!

you only repeat only lube up the shaft!!!

what i do it turn the starter bendix by hand, use a brush and paint on marine grease

its called a helix shaft

look at #2, see the the red circle, thats what u lube up, only the shaft!!
