Hello everyone. I am looking for some help figuring out what is wrong with this engine.
Its a 2007 60hp efi four stroke mercury, low hrs, well maintained.
when I took it out first time this year weird things started to happen.
It will not go past 3000rpm when in the water with throttle fully down. Looks like Guardian mode is engaged.
I did some testing and here is what i got so far...
Starts no problem.
In neutral when reved up rpms go over 3000 and motor sounds great no sputtering cooling works water coming out of the back is cool.
Reverse, rpms go over 3000 motor sounds great same as above.
In throttle it will get to 3000 rpm and wont go over, no alarms, cooling works water out the back cool.
When not under load (out of water with water "ear muffs" attached) in throttle it goes above 3000 rpm and sounds fine, cooling works.
So it only goes into guardian mode in the water and it has no power.
Replaced battery, drained all fuel put new fuel in, replaced Fuel filter, oil,
As said before i am not getting any alarms so its hard to diagnose. It only beeps once when i turn the key which should be normal.
any feedback is appreciated.
Looking at other threads i see that thermostat might be stuck. will check that next.
