2007 Mercruiser 4.3L idling problems

It’s fuel injected. I noticed a rough idle originally but it ran great. Then next time I started it it wouldn’t idle at all. I’d put it in gear and give it gas and it would sputter and backfire until a higher rpm. I’ve changed the fuel filter and spark plugs. Being that it is fuel injected I am at a loss. Any ideas?

the crab style distributor cap on the MPIs is a known area of issues and cross firing among cylinders. Try to start it in neutral with throttle advanced if that works might be IAC valve. If the IAC doesnt open it wont idle, if you manually open the throttle a tad and it stays running would point to IAC. Had to do this on a friends MPI boat a couple summers ago wouldn't idle, would idle with throttle advanced... had to slam it into neutral then gear before it died to get home
