2007 BF225 Lower Unit

What's the cost to rebuild a 25007 BF225 Lower unit? I got a quote but it seems high compared to I can get a new replacement unit off eBay cheaper. Only thing, I've got a Bob's nose cone on mine so a replacement I'd loose the low water pickup.

I don't know about Honda's, but a rash of Yami LU's went out around here, and all the mechanics said rebuilding was a bad idea. Something about...... you can buy a new one for the price of a rebuild, or close. And the rebuild is "iffy".
 
I personally rebuilt mine 2 years ago in my shop and it has been fine. But again I think I prob do a better job than the average mechanic.
 
I'm looking at a lower unit with a 30" mid shaft, but mine has a 20" shaft. Is this pretty easy to swap out? It would have me a lot of money.... I've called a few places and only people will give me a ball price of $4000-$5000 for a new bolt on lower unit.

I swapped mine out from a 30" to 25". All parts are interchangeable. Hardest part was making a puller to pull prop shaft guide out and shimming everything back in.
