When I had my motor winterized

When I had my motor winterized last fall I asked if the lower unit oil was changed and the guy at the boat shop told me that yamaha sent a bulletin stating that it was not necessary to change the lower unit oil. Does anyone know if that is true?

"BS, who is this moron. Gear

"BS, who is this moron. Gear oil is subject to great amounts of pressure and will beak down over time. How do you prevent serious gearcase damage if you never check the oil for water or metal? Maybe he wants to see you back in a year or two needing an expensive lower unit. Find out what kind of car he owns and phone him up and state the manufacturer has a bulletin out that he shouldn't check or change his engine oil!"
