2006 25hp 4stroke fuel injected Tohatsu. Motor has only @8 hrs. I last cranked it @ 9 months ago with no problems. I cannot crank now. Have cleaned fuel tank replaced fuel line and cleaned one fuel filter. Engine turns over well with good spark. I removed the vapor separator and pulled the fuel feed pump. I applied 12VDC to pump and could not really tell if pump was working or not. I filled the vapor separator housing with new fuel and reassembled. The engine ran for @ 3-4 minutes then shut down. How can I tell if fuel feed pump is defective?

Check the procedure in the Factory service manual for test procedures. You may just have bad gas, which can be purged. The FFP will make noise when running, BTW. These motors need to run with water separator filters, and must have stabilizer in the fuel when laid up over the off season.

Where can I find info on factory repair manuals? I am not an outboard mechanic. I use this boat for river/ocean rescue with the fire department. I am a volunteer firefighter/EMT and hope to get the motor running as economically as possible.

Any Tohatsu dealer (including me) can supply you with a Factory service manual. You can email me at the office at [email protected], and I will be happy to help you. BTW, I am a former Lieutenant with my local H&L company, and my wife is currently an EMS officer. I understand budgets.
