"I have a 2006 Volvo Penta 5.7

"I have a 2006 Volvo Penta 5.7 Liter engine on a 24 ft. Crowline runabout (140 hours on boat, , took delivery in 2007). Running about 40 MPH, the overtemp alarm sounded. I immediately checked the water temp which registered 220 degree F. I immediately stopped the boat and killed the engine. In doing so, water made its way into the cylinders through the exhaust.

I took all the plus out, turned the engine over to get all the water out of the cylinders. Plugs looks fine, The boat fired back up and ran fine. Overheat was a bad impellor which I changed. I also changed the oil and oil filter. Boat seems to be running fine.

Could this incident cause any longer term damage?? If 75 degree lake water enters a hot engine through the exhaust, will this cause any permanent damage to the engine?? (i.e, boat runs fine at the moment following the incident, but I didn't know if I should expect something down the road).

Look forward to your reply."

"At least you know not to shut

"At least you know not to shut off while still heading a fair speed now. Providing you got the water out quickly, which it sound like you did. If you had bent a rod or something similar the engine would be making some nasty noises and would be running very eratically. It sounds like you got away with any problems, might be worth doing an oil and filter change as theres a chance a small amount of water could of crept into the sump.
Good luck with it!"

I would do another oil change

I would do another oil change just to be safe and pull the plugs for another look. But more than likely if you had hydrolocked it you would know by now. You could also do a compression cylinder balance check to see if you bent any rings.
