2006 Honda BF5 Short Shaft

Hello,

I have an oil leak coming from my lower leg weep holes. After I took it a part and inspected it , the leak appears to be coming out of the upper shaft seal.... Is this a major fix, or can I do this my self inexpensively?

If you are talking about the seal under the water pump, it is not too hard to change.

Remove water pump....the vertical shaft should pull out. Try not to move the gear case around, so the pinion gear stays in place inside the unit.

Pry the seal out and tap the new one in. Put gear lube on the rubber lips and then slowly reinsert the vertical shaft until it seats into the pinion gear. If you can not get it into the gear, you will just have to pull the prop shaft assembly out and reorient the pinion gear so that the vertical shaft goes into it.
