I just got this motor and getting ready to install it on out aluminum deck boat....It's a 06 with ultra low hours and looks like it was babied from the begining. Compression check - all four in 195/200 psi range....starts and runs for few seconds and slowly stalls and shots down....i did notice leak on one of the bodies where fuel filter goes (bad gasket i guess) when i try to give it a throttle/rev it - it dies....what would be the good starting point?

video of the honda issue...thx

Thank you, i will do that tomorrow first thing. I do hear the pump priming inthere, but will take it apart and clean it...fuel filter is kinf=d of dirty (replacing that also...

Get the Honda shop manual for this outboard, replace all fuel filters, spark plugs, thermostat, full water pump kit, and give it a good run in a barrel of fresh water if it’s been anywhere near salt water. I’d be running it on a portable tank with fresh gas and a heavy dose of sea foam in the gas until you get it running good.

I assume you changed motor oil and lower gear oil?

A 2006 is almost 20 years old, if it’s low hours, it sat around a lot and old fuel will cause a lot of problems. If this outboard was on a boat with a large fuel tank, with little use, that fuel can go rotten?

UPDATE....today i removed VST to check it's condition inside, along with few filters/hoses...etc.
Here is what i found (photo included) O ring on top of the fuel pump was damaged and that might be cause for low fuel pressure.
Just want it to hear opinions before i start ordering parts that i might not need....All fluids are changed, plugs, thermostats, new water pump kit was installed and barrel filled with fresh water...ordering new fuel filters and seals for water separator

Good catch! I’d say replace the O ring, clean everything up as much as you can with carb clean and put it back together. If you still have low PSI then it might be the pump or the pressure regulator.

You can check the regulator by unhooking the vacuum hose to it, which should give you full pressure.
