This is a very strange one. One time out of every ten my starter motor starts the engine but the starter motor does not disengage. It is not a problem with the starter motor or the ignition switch. Switch has been changed and I have tried three different starter motors with new solenoid as well.
When engine is turned off, engine stops but starter motor still turns, the only way to stop the starter is to turn off cranking battery. If you then turn the battery back on, the starter turns without turning key but the engine will not fire as no power is running to the injectors.
To get everything working again you have to disconnect the wire to the solenoid, turn the key on off, something then clicks in the electronics and the injectors turn on again and the engine will start as normal.
This problem is not a sticking solenoid, something is switching the solenoid on and it is staying on as the wire to the solenoid is live, when power is cut from the battery the solenoid disengages the starter.
This has been happen for over a year but it is now doing it often. It used to happen every 4-6 months now it does it every 2-3 days and it is driving me crazy as I live in a house that is boat access only.
Any help would be appreciated.
