 I have a 2006 Johnson 90hp v4 outboard on my 20' pontoon. It is on the trailer getting ready for the season. It ran hot with alarm and warning light when I started it with garden hose attached. I checked and no water from the tell tale. I decided to change the water pump. Got the parts and proceeded to YouTube to see what I was in for. Looked pretty straight forward to me so I jumped right in. I knew I was in trouble when I couldn't find the screw to release the shift rod! I removed the lower covers so I could get a better look. I could see the rod and clamp but no screw. Well maybe it's on the other side. Couldn't see anything from over there so I removed the starboard side carbs. No help. Finally found a mention of the pin on the throttle shaft. Anyway got it all taken apart, dropped the lower unit replaced the pump housing and impeller with necessary parts. Put it all back together only to find I had one bolt left over. It was under a rag I used to wipe my hands. I have taken it all apart again looking for where I missed a bolt and I can't find where it goes! It is the same size as the carb bolts (short ones) and the ones that secure the lower covers. I can't find where one is missing. This is so frustrating! I am afraid to start the engine now thinking that something serious will happen. Any thoughts?

P.S. At 71 years old, lifting that lower unit is getting old!
