2006 75P Optimax

I had the belt break on my '06 75hp OPtimax,,,, after replacing the belt,,, motor seems not healthy,,,,,, surges at times,,,,then while idling for a couple minutes,, it dies,,,, starts back up right away,,,, but something seems unhappy,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, when the belt lets go,,,, can that cause other things to go wrong,,,,,,,I am afraid I will have to take it to the boat doctor,,,,, I did not water test the motor,,, just in the driveway with muffs,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Was the belt worn out ?-------Did something seize and cause belt to break ?--------Checked alternator ?------Checked compressor ?

just cruising, belt broke,,,,, compressor is not stiff or locked up,,, alternator spins free, and charges with new belt,, motor ran just well enough to get to a nearby boat ramp when belt let go,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,the only odd thing,,, while putting along,,, there was what seemed like a submerged log hit,,,, 2 of them, never saw a log float or roll to the surface,,,,, that seemed odd to,,, maybe that was something in the motor,,,,,, but it ran for a few more minutes,,, then when throttled down,,, belt let go,,,,,,,,,,,,
