2006 70hp 2 stroke stuck in gear

I removed my lower unit and replaced an o-ring and two gaskets. Installed unit and now it won't shift out of gear.

Any ideas on how to fix. YouTube video suggested tapping on the lo we er unit case with a rubber mallet. Did not work

Hitting things with a hammer is a mistake !!--------------Remove lower unit.---------Put lower unit in neutral.-----Control box in neutral .----Assemble.
