2006 140 Johnson 4 stroke Tach problem

I am thinking about purchasing

I am thinking about purchasing a sea pro with a 140 Johnson 4 stroke. Guy let me try it out. Everything worked great when I took it out but the tachometer. It would not move. Checked for loose wires behind the tach and at the motor.Could not find the problem. Any suggestions?? Could this be a major issue? What does the cost normally run to fix? Would you be hesitant about this boat or is this normal?
