Hello fella's. New here and to outboards. Recently bought a G3 185 Eagle with a 115hp 2 stroke. However, the speedometer isn't working. Realize that maybe its just a clogged tube or something. I've seen threads saying that the pickup hole is located on the "front of the lower unit" down by the prop. Does anyone have more specific locations or PICTURES. I have no clue what I'm looking for. I could use a GPS for speed but really want this fixed. Thanks in advanced for any help offered.

IT is just a very small hole in the front of the lower unit, you just have to look for it, it is quite small. Then there is a tube that leads to your speedo. A clog in that hole or a kink/break in the tube/hose can lead to a speedo failure. You'll just have to start at the lower unit and go from there. You can use a very small drill bit or a paper clip or something to try to clear the hole at the lower unit.

Good Luck

Yup... Been there and done that! That little speedo hole is a pain the butt. Poke away at it and try to unclog the mud, sand or whatever got in there. Had many mechanics tell me "just watch your speed on your GPS, it's more accurate anyway" but I am one who wants everything working and hates to see a gage with a blank on it. It is usually a clog right in that tiny little hole on the leading edge of tke lower unit.

Now.. If only i could make it match the speed on my GPS! LOL!
