I am new to this sight and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here is my concern... I have a 2005 Yamaha 90D, which is a 4 stroke.
Every year I religiously change the lower gear lube, fog plugs, and replace oil and oil filter. I always use Yamaha oil and parts. After changing oil and filter, I placed the 4qts of oil back in and I noticed a little oil/gas on the driveway. It was coming out of my speedometer intake, a small hole where water passes through on the front of the motor shaft cover. When I first got my boat in 2006, the speedometer quick working. The mechanic showed me then where the intake was located and just to take a small drill bit and unplug it. After I cleaned it out, it has been fine for the last 5 years. The intake hole is about 1/4" wide and located on the front shaft cover, between the cowling and the lower gear case. I placed the water muffs back on and only water comes out. Motor in the upright position and only water, but when I tilt the motor, a little oil/gas seeps out. It looks like oil to me, but a buddy said he smelt gas in it. Placed the motor upright again and no leaks. There were no seepage before the oil change and oil level has been fine all year. No oil in cowling (but I did spill a little taking out the filter and cleaned it up). No water in gas either. Is there a overflow/exhaust tied into this area, or do I have a seal problem? The boat has been in my garage since Thanksgiving and I have seen no more seepage, but still concerned before taking boat back out on big water.
