My son just bought a 2005 merc

My son just bought a 2005 mercury 50 horse with a 17ft bass tracker. he did not get an owners manual it. The motor has an oil reservior for 2 cycle oil.So does this mean that this is a 2 stroke. Also how do you tell if the oil injectors are putting oil into the gas mixture.

As a note, this particular motor was popular on 16 foot aluminum fishing or fish/ski boats - 800 pound hull weights - and was the "MINIMUM" power you would want on them.

Bayliner is a fiberglass hull - much heavier foot per foot compared with aluminum.

If you post your model I can give you an idea of the best this motor could do on your rig - but just off the top of my head, unless your Bayliner is quite small, I would suspect you need significantly more horsepower..."
